Venture into the natural tropical forest and confront the prehistoric crocodiles, the rulers of this sacred land and witness their unpredictable personalities. Get a guide at the entrance (tip him at the end) and you can hold crocodiles, monkeys, boas, baby deer, and parrots. Crococun began in 1985 as a commercial breeding farm intending to sell crocodile skins, but now Crocodile is a Park & Regional Zoo in the Riviera Maya. This is a great place to take children and perfectly safe since most of the animals are in large pens and exhibits. Everything is outside in the lush jungle. The tour consists of a walk down a winding jungle path as your guide talks about the animals and answers your questions. Every so often he stops to pick one up to show you something. Be sure to pet the hairless Mayan dog. It feels sort of like a pig. Maya used to eat them,an is a delicious dish. Cover yourself with bug repellent before getting out of the car. At Crococun, there is a snack bar and souvenir stand for mementos (no crocodile luggage). So if your passing by and you have an hour, stop, and enjoy this adventure.

Although the center of ancient cities were lined with palaces and temples, the common people lived in the outskirts in houses built of wood and chord (metal was not yet discovered) whose elliptical shape kept their interior fresh all year round. Their roofs (palapa) were thatched with palm fronds, which must be cut by the light of the full moon so the sap reaches the tip of the frond making the roof waterproof for up to 20-25 years. Beside each house, the Mayans planted vegetables and aromatic herbs in raised plots to protect them from small herbivorous creatures.
